Needle types

Sewing machine needle sizes make more sense when the needle family is right first.

Universal

The usual default for woven cotton, simple projects, and light general sewing.

Ballpoint and stretch

Designed for knits, jersey, rib fabrics, and elastic blends that hate sharp points.

Jeans and topstitch

Better for dense seams, heavier thread, and fabrics that push back hard.
